To continue with what we have learned in class about the home-row we are going to be doing typing exercises. Our first lesson will be on the website Typing.com.

The doors have been decked, the QR codes have been made... it's time to grab your tickets and board the Eastbrook South Polar Express!
Last week we learned what a QR code does and this week we are going to be using our devices to scan the codes by each door. Don't forget your headphones! What is a QR Code? Hey, I’m really glad you asked! QR Code is an abbreviation for Quick Response Code. It is a special kind of bar code that anybody can scan with a smartphone app that usually directs the user to a website. Here are a few examples of unique QR Codes: Most QR Codes direct you to a company website. Sometimes they enable you to send a text message directly to a company. Sometimes they instantly pull up a video or send you to an online campaign. Sometimes it just pulls up a phone number or a plain text message. The possibilities are endless! Soon you will be seeing QR codes all over school! The 3-6th graders have been busy creating QR codes for each door. When you scan a code it will read a loud part of the Polar Express! Exciting! Let's get scanning!
Last week in Library Mrs. Stump talked about what made a good book! This week in Tech class we are going to be using the Toontastic app to direct and create our own stories! Directions:
1. In your table groups work together to brain storm the characters in your story and also the setting. Is there a villain? Will the characters endure some type of struggle? How will you resolve the ending? 2. Next go to the Toontastic App and start creating your characters and settings. You will need to pick who will be the voices of each character. You will need at least 4 characters. 3. When you are not recording we will be in whisper mode as to not disturb other groups while they record. 4. When you are finished be sure to save your video to your camera roll. If you need help ask Miss Moore. We will be having a movie premiere our next class period. Second grade has started learning about coding! We have some key terms we have mastered: programmer, code, sequence, and algorithm. Students began writing a simple code to make our Robot walk, spin, and jump. The following week we went outside and students created some of their own coding to program a friend through an obstacle course. We have also been enjoying the Kodable app.
